GENERAL SUMMARY:
Provides on-site consultation, education, and technical assistance to international hospitals and health care systems to assist in improving patient care, quality, and safety. Candidates must have a strong understanding of Joint Commission Resources/Joint Commission International standards with the ability to review design drawings as they relate to standards in both a clinical and facilities/engineering capacity. Maintains current and relevant knowledge of health care issues and strategies. Experience in a health care consulting role is highly desirable. Preferred candidates have performance improvement experience in settings over 250 beds and/or those with strong standards knowledge in applicable Joint Commission program. Excellent communication skills as exhibited through professional involvement in leadership roles, teaching, consulting, or relevant publications. Written and verbal communication skills necessary to effectively present information and ideas in proposals, reports, and presentations. 100% travel required.

GENERAL SUMMARY
Plans and executes business development and sales activities to current and potential accreditation and consulting clients within the Asia Pacific region as prioritized by the international product line leaders and regional management team. The Project Director, Support Operations is responsible for developing and implementing multi-media promotional strategies for internal programs and activities. The goal is to attract staff’s attention, and promote understanding, goodwill and support for the assigned activities. The Project Director will coordinate the planning, management and execution of short-term and long-term campaign strategies, including monthly internal promotions for the fitness and wellness program. The Project Director will solicit the voice of the customer when developing creative campaigns and will solicit assistance from staff volunteers to ensure a smooth implementation.

Supports the Center for Transforming Healthcare’s activities associated with helping customers embed high reliability practices through leadership commitment to zero harm, strengthening organization-wide safety culture, and establishing and sustaining a robust process improvement culture. Assist the Executive Director in managing the strategic development, growth and retention, and day-to-day operations of the activities related to business development for the Center for Transforming Healthcare’s (CTH) high reliability products and services. The AD of Business Development is responsible for increasing Center awareness and sales, and account management. The Director plans, manages and reports on all activities associated with the daily operations and coordination of the Engineering Department. Formulates and initiates strategies to improve the Engineering Department responsiveness and accountability to accredited customers and the public. Systematically evaluates departmental performance, surveyor variability, and standards effectiveness and leads the efforts to improve the same. The director provides direction and leadership to surveyors addressing interpretation of standards and survey processes. Participates as a consultant in the development and revision of standards and survey process and in support of ongoing accreditation services and special projects. Serves as faculty for surveyor and field education programs and represents the Joint Commission at speaking engagements and in media interviews. Provides leadership and oversight to educational needs identified and offerings provided to the division through in-services/classes, conference calls, FR newsletter, and the annual training conference. Provides leadership and direction to the Healthcare Environment: Technical Advisory Council (HE:TAC).
The director also provides updates and recommendations to Joint Commission leadership regarding emerging trends that impact the healthcare environment. Participates in meetings and forums with federal agencies, national code promulgation associations and other agencies in coordination with the DC Office.
- Manages all departmental activities to include: Planning, managing and implementing departmental activities that respond to the Corporate Strategic Initiatives including preparation of the departmental budgets and capital and other special requests for resources.Directing and planning the allocation of all human resources and technical resources to support the priority activities of the departments which include standards interpretation, accreditation committee support, the periodic performance review/intracycle monitoring process, post survey processes, timely accurate response to all submitted inquiries, educational needs of the field staff and central office staff, not limited to AEC, remote learning, NFRO, etc. Provides specific technical training to the Life Safety Code Specialist (LSCS) regarding the healthcare environment. Curriculum and on-going support coordinated to ensure consistent interpretations during survey activities. Assures training meets the learning needs of the individuals to achieve favorable survey results. Provides support to LSCS by serving as a mentor, coach and leader, providing positive and constructive feedback as indicated.Establishes periodic assessment and metric to measure department performance and evaluates performance against those measurement strategies. Assesses performance through a variety of management data, feedback from other departments and customers, and direct observations. Develops quality control process to ensure consistent interpretations among the Engineering Department team. This would include evaluating written responses, equivalencies and survey scans.

- Works with staff in the formulation of SOPs for the department including the development and implementation of those SOPs. - Manages interviewing and hiring and when necessary discipline and discharge of personnel. Continually assesses departmental resource needs and makes adjustments as indicated.
- Participates in education activities supporting internal and external customers. Internal customers, such as surveyors, will receive support during AEC, technical support and general information. External customers, such as those affected by Joint Commission accreditation, will be supported using different venues, including FAQs, Media Relations, Speaker Bureau, advocacy partners, Joint Commission Resources (including articles and educational events) as well as other opportunities. Provides appropriate support to those accredited organizations affected by emergency events.
- Develops advocacy relationships and represents the Joint Commission to other agencies including CMS, ASHE, AAMI, NFPA, AIA, etc. providing standards knowledge and expertise. Actively develops and maintains liaison relationships with various groups and organizations as part of the Liaison Network.
- Working in conjunction with the Director of Federal Relations: Establishes effective working relationships with the CMS Life Safety Code engineers to promote good communication, understanding of CMS expectations, and an appreciation/respect for TJC’s standards and survey process and positive. Takes the lead on reconciliation of any discrepancies between government validation surveys of Joint Commission accredited organizations and Joint Commission findings in the area of Physical Environment and Life Safety Code. Conducts periodic risk evaluations, as appropriate, of the discrepancies with CMS on Physical Environment and Life Safety findings to make recommendations to leadership on the need for improved Joint Commission survey processes, surveyor education, or other programmatic enhancements. Accompanies the Washington Office, or represents The Washington Office as appropriate, at national meetings involving governmental bodies where Engineering expertise is required, such as in the areas of physical environment, Life Safety Code, or emergency preparedness. Assists in the development of tools or guidance as a collaborative with the federal government for Medicare programs recognized by governmental bodies, such as updating the joint CMS-TJC Checklist for re-opening of hospitals after a catastrophic engineering systems failure.
- Manages and leads multiple divisional and cross-divisional projects. Plans, develops, administers, and monitors all facets of the project to ensure that the goals and objectives of the project are achieved. Leads staff from within the division and across Joint Commission divisions in completing the project. Facilitates resolution of issues/problems that can affect the completion of the project. Reports periodically to senior management on the project’s progress.

- Develops, participates in and provides leadership to a Healthcare Environment: Technical Advisory Council (HE:TAC) focused on the healthcare environment (life safety, environment of care and emergency management). Summary:
The Joint Commission has an educational opportunity for a law student to work as a compliance/legal intern in the Legal Department with the Corporate Compliance Officer and legal staff in a wide variety of projects focused in the area of corporate law, corporate compliance and privacy involving legal research, drafting of documents, contract and policy review in support of meeting legal and regulatory requirements. Additional support may include development of training tools, case studies, newsletters or performing audits and/or monitors to determine if practice meets policy. May also support the General Counsel. Looking for a minimum 24 hours per week for a minimum of 10 weeks. This is an unpaid position. In cooperation with college/university may consider it externship.

This position supports the Joint Commission Center for Transforming Healthcare’s mission to transform health care into a high reliability industry. The Black Belt 2 (BB2) will lead strategic projects for the Center and mentor Belts. The BB2 will learn and then enable others in adapting Robust Process Improvement (Lean Six Sigma and change management). The BB2 will support the Executive Director and Master Black Belt with the training program for Center employees and external customers, which includes training Belts and others in problem solving. The BB2 provides expert advice to process improvement teams regarding team dynamics, change management, process re-design strategies, performance improvement toolsets (especially those of Lean Six Sigma), and technical expertise, such as statistical process control and flow, pull and data analysis. The BB2 will coach and mentor process improvement teams as a part of the Center's strategy to employ Robust Process Improvement to improve the quality and safety of patient care. The BB2 will present for Center presentations and assist in Center publications. The BB2 will also be a faculty for RPI as a Product.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Initiates and oversees the operation of a responsive and efficient business office.
- Markets JCI products and services to health care organizations directly, through any partners, and through participation in various meetings and forums throughout the Middle East
