Overview

The Practicing Architect leads the design, development, and implementation of innovative technology solutions across multiple projects in a collaborative, fast-paced environment. This role is responsible for architecting software and integration solutions, conducting feasibility studies, estimating time and costs, and establishing strategies for new or revised application systems. The Practicing Architect works closely with cross-functional teams—including development, product management, QA, business managers, and infrastructure—to deliver high-quality, secure, and scalable products.

Responsibilities

  • Lead architecture and design efforts for software products and integration platforms, including APIs and data exchange solutions.
  • Define and align technical stacks to optimize software portfolios and reduce maintenance overhead.
  • Conduct feasibility studies, prepare budgets, and establish project strategies.
  • Mentor and guide development teams, fostering technical best practices and innovation.
  • Collaborate with business and technical stakeholders to define requirements, acceptance criteria, and technical specifications.
  • Ensure compliance with enterprise security standards and healthcare privacy regulations (e.g., HIPAA).
  • Oversee the implementation of new technologies, including cloud platforms, mobile/web stacks, and interoperability standards (e.g., HL7 FHIR).
  • Prepare and deliver presentations and reports to senior management.
  • Develop and maintain documentation, standards, and guidelines for technology adoption and integration.
  • Participate in professional networks to stay abreast of industry trends and best practices.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or related field, or equivalent work experience.
  • 10+ years of IT experience, including software development, architecture, and project leadership.
  • Deep understanding of software development lifecycle (SDLC), agile methodologies, and architecture styles/design patterns.
  • Experience with data modeling, relational databases, and SQL programming.
  • Hands-on expertise in designing, developing, and deploying large-scale business software and APIs.
  • Knowledge of healthcare informatics, interoperability standards (HL7, FHIR), and privacy/security protocols.
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, and presentation skills.
  • Ability to mentor and coach developers and architects at all levels.
  • Strong problem-solving skills, resourcefulness, and ability to independently research and evaluate new technologies.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and prioritize work in a fast-paced environment.
