Overview

Develops and assists with the state policy-related strategy for Joint Commission. Manages state engagements in a designated region of the U.S, including the collection, monitoring, and dissemination of information for state and legislative, regulatory, and policy initiatives related to Joint Commission’s mission and strategic business objectives.

Cultivates new and nurtures existing relationships with state government offices, state agencies, Medicaid offices, and key state stakeholders. Assists with representation of Joint Commission at state legislative and regulatory meetings, and other stakeholder meetings.

Meets with and represents the enterprise at various meetings of relevance to state regulatory and legislative activities of interest to Joint Commission. Supports the Director of State Relations in all aspects of state relations and works cross-collaboratively with the state and federal relations teams to accomplish Joint Commission’s mission and strategic business objectives.

Responsibilities

  • Execute strategic plans and initiatives developed with the Director of State Relations to advance the organization’s state policy goals.

  • Monitor and disseminate information about the status of state legislative and regulatory initiatives related to the Joint Commission’s mission and strategic business objectives.

  • In conjunction with the Director and EVP, identifies legislative, regulatory, and policy opportunities and barriers at the state level for facilitating Joint Commission accreditation and certification, and executescomprehensive annual strategic plans.

  • Anticipate and shape legislative, regulatory, and policy opportunities that enable or expand recognition of JC standards in state frameworks.

  •  Prepares and / or works with other government relations staff to prepare amendments to state legislative proposals and provides Joint Commission comments on proposed regulations to protect and enhance accreditation-related activities and Joint Commission priorities.

  •  Cultivate and grow relationships with state agencies, legislative leaders and staff, governors’ offices, and stakeholder associations; develop champions and partners.

  •  Builds relationships with Medicaid offices and state public health programs and assists Director withdeveloping strategy for recognition of Joint Commission’s accreditation and certification by Medicaid and state public health programs.

  •  Monitor and analyze state-level trends and activity.

  • Attends and prepares materials for senior level state official meetings as directed by Director and EVP.

  • Collaborates with other departments to provide input on state activity of interest relevant to accreditation and certification programs, Joint Commission initiatives, state and / or Medicaid recognized programs, andother similar areas.

  • Performs necessary research to support state priorities.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree, masters preferred (public policy, health policy, law, or related).

  •  Minimum of 5 years’ experience in state government, state health policy, or other state-facing role working on Medicaid and healthcare public policy.

  •  Ideal candidates will bring experience with state legislative engagement, particularly related to healthcaredelivery matters.

  •  Demonstrated experience with state legislative and regulatory processes, including state websites andthird-party technology to track these processes.

  •  Demonstrates ability to develop and maintain effective relationships with a wide range of regulatory,governmental, professional and other senior level representatives concerning health care issues.

  •  Written and oral communication skills necessary to effectively present information and ideas in proposals,position papers, written communications and speeches.

  •  Travel as needed to perform duties.
