Overview

The Joint Commission seeks a detail-oriented and intellectually curious Research Assistant to support a growing portfolio of research, policy, and analytics initiatives. Reporting directly to the Vice President and Chief Research Officer and collaborating closely with Research Scientists, the Research Assistant will contribute to literature reviews, policy analysis, and the preparation of high-impact materials for internal and external audiences. The ideal candidate will be a strong writer, a skilled organizer, and a fast learner with a demonstrated ability to work independently in a fast-paced, mission-driven environment.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct and summarize literature reviews to inform research design, analytic strategy, and stakeholder engagement.
  • Draft and edit research-informed content for internal briefings, external communications, presentations, and strategic documents.
  • Assist in the development of slide decks, data briefs, and background memos for use by senior leaders and collaborators.
  • Support policy analysis related to health care quality, safety, and equity; synthesize findings into concise, actionable summaries.
  • Coordinate project timelines and task tracking to help ensure timely completion of deliverables across multiple ongoing initiatives.
  • Help prepare materials for peer-reviewed publications and external stakeholder briefings.
  • Engage with Research Scientists to support analytic research projects; contribute to meeting agendas, summaries, and documentation.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in public health, public policy, health services research, economics, or a related field.
  • At least 2 years of professional experience supporting health care research, policy analysis, or analytics in an academic, nonprofit, government, or consulting setting.
  • Demonstrated strength in clear, concise, and accurate writing, particularly for non-technical audiences.
  • Experience conducting literature reviews and summarizing academic or policy materials.
  • Excellent organizational skills, including the ability to manage multiple priorities and track detailed information with minimal supervision.
  • Comfort working independently while coordinating across multiple stakeholders and functions.
  • Commitment to The Joint Commission’s mission to improve health care quality and safety.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in a relevant field.
  • Familiarity with health care quality measures, accreditation, or delivery system reforms.
