Overview

JCI Fellowship Award for Patient Safety Pathways Initiative.  

 

JCI is working on a new strategic initiative ‘JCI Patient Safety Pathways Initiative’ a road map which describes the patient safety and quality journey organizations take to advance safer patient care. This will involve working with ministries of health and healthcare organizations, in various stages of development, to bring about nationwide improvements in the safety of health care, by creating pathways for their patient safety journey for stepwise and incremental improvements, and transformative changes leading to JCI recognition on achievement of

agreed milestones.

 

Working closely with key national partners, JCI Patient Safety Pathways Fellow will support on-site planning, implementation and monitoring of the initiative, working in close collaboration with MoH, the hospital leadership and patient safety and quality team at the hospital level. The JCI Fellow will support in all steps to implement Pathways at the facility level in all the nominated hospitals including engagement of the hospital leadership, finalization of MOU with MoH and nominated hospitals, adaptation of assessment tool, if required, at the local level, support the local team of assessors in conducting needs assessment, analysis of gaps, identification of key areas for improvement, action plan development, resource mobilization, monitoring, evaluation and reassessment and preparation of periodic progress reports

 

This one-year fellowship will be awarded to a healthcare professional who demonstrates commitment to safety, quality, and process improvement. The Fellow will be embedded into designated Ministry of Health (MoH), (Cambodia, Maldives, or Philippines)   implementing and participating in activities that support safety and quality in hospitals nominated by the MoH. They will do project work under the supervision of designated MoH, (Cambodia, Maldives, or Philippines)  and Vice President and Global Chief Patient Safety Officer, JCI.

Responsibilities

  • Complete all employee new hire orientation and corporate compliance training, as well as mandatory employee training throughout the year.
  • Meeting with the Corporate Compliance Officer to understand the processes for maintaining the confidentiality of all organization-specific information.
  • Understand the components of the JCI Patient Safety Pathways Initiative.
  • Provide support for on-site planning, all steps in implementation, and monitoring of the JCI Patient Safety Pathways Initiative
  • Support MoH and JCI in facilitating applicable in-person meetings, conferences, and other educational events.
  • Work in close collaboration with MoH, the hospital leadership and patient safety and quality team at the hospital level
  • Support in engagement of the hospital leadership and finalization of MOU with MoH and nominated hospitals.
  • Support adaptation of assessment tool, if required, at the local level and in conducting needs assessment, analysis of gaps and identification of key areas for improvement,
  • Support in action plan development, resource mobilization, monitoring, evaluation and reassessment.
  • Prepare periodic progress reports.
  • Support development of workplans and milestones with timelines for the JCI Pathways initiative.
  • Organize patient safety training for the hospital health workforce, as required.
  • Manage data to demonstrate improvements.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Eligibility:

Basic university degree (Bachelors) required, in the field of health sciences, patient safety, public health, quality of care, or healthcare systems and services management.

 

Experience

A minimum of 5 years of experience at the national levels in the development of programs in the field of patient safety, medication safety, quality of care or public health, healthcare service or systems improvement.

 

Fellowship Location and Dates:

  • This fellowship includes a hybrid work environment, meaning the selected candidate will perform work onsite at the designated MoH nominated hospitals and also online, as required.
  • Fellowship Locations: Cambodia, Maldives, and Philippines
  • Begins July 1, 2025, and concludes June 30, 2026.

 

Fellowship Compensation:

  • Monthly salary, to be determined based on country location.  
  • Monthly benefit allowance to be provided, to be determined based on country location.
  • Local travel reimbursements to be pre-authorized and reimbursed upon approval.
