Overview

The Health Sciences Librarian Intern will assist the Health Sciences Library team in providing comprehensive library services to support the Joint Commission’s mission of improving healthcare quality and safety. This internship offers hands-on experience in various aspects of health sciences librarianship, will assist the library in cataloging materials available both physically and digitally.  You will have an opportunity to work on meaningful projects that impact healthcare quality and safety.  Strong interest in archives and health sciences  librarianship.

Responsibilities

  • This internship would assist the library in cataloging materials available both physically and digitally. With our intern we are looking to create a searchable catalog of our physical collection/archive. This will assist employees in determining what is available through the print collection and what types of archival materials we have available for reference.
  • The intern would work within the corporate librarians to assist in an overarching project to catalog and organize our print collection and historical archive. In addition to this project, the intern would also gain experience working within a health sciences focused library, participating in activities such as literature searching, quick reference, and interlibrary loan.
  • The intern will work within the Corporate Library to assist in an overarching project to catalog and organize our print collection and historical archive. The Corporate Library hosts sensitive archival materials dating back to even before the Joint Commission’s first published standards in 1953. The intern will assist in organizing and creating a searchable catalog/finding aid for our archival materials. In addition to this project, the intern would also gain experience working within a health sciences focused library, gaining experience in literature searching, quick reference, and interlibrary loan.

Qualifications

 

  • We are looking for a student currently enrolled from an ALA-accredited Library and Information Science master’s degree program.
  • Experience in an archive is preferred but not required.
  • 15-20 hours
  • Part time
  • Required in office on Tuesdays and Wednesdays
