Summary Statement:

The Senior Manager Multimedia works closely with the Associate Director of Publications & Multimedia and the Director of DOCC to enhance the reputation of The Joint Commission, and to promote the mission, vision, programs and policies of The Joint Commission as established by the Board of Commissioners. The Senior Manager Multimedia is responsible for the development and production of multimedia projects, including videos, podcasts, and DOCC’s external webinars for The Joint Commission and the Center for Transforming Healthcare. This senior management role includes writing and editing of materials for multimedia projects, as well as providing guidance to staff, consultants and freelancers assigned to assist with multimedia projects.


Position Accountabilities:

  • Manages the development and production of external videos, podcasts and DOCC’s webinars for The Joint Commission and the Center for Transforming Healthcare, including related materials, such as schedules, scripts and transcripts.


  • Responsible for assigned projects, including planning, coordination, budgeting, researching, writing, editing, and distribution, and managing relationships with internal and external sources, including vendors.


  • Responsible for assessing project needs, including equipment, talent and formats of deliverables.


  • Creates graphic and video assets for use on the website, social media, print collateral, digital ads, multimedia presentations, and other communications vehicles.


  • Designs professional content and imagery for print and digital applications that is on-brand, reinforces our mission through compelling storytelling, and is appropriate for our existing and developing audiences.


  • Synthesizes data for the development of presentation materials to communicate complex concepts and data to a general audience.


  • When needed, shoots video or still photography using basic A/V equipment.


  • Edits raw video/video clips and other materials to create custom content for all types of applications and for use across platforms, including social media platforms.


  • Manages multiple projects and prioritizes workload to deliver assets on time, within budget and in scope.


  • Manages the work of the Multimedia Specialist, sets annual/biannual goals tied to enterprise strategies for the Multimedia Specialist, and provides direction and education/training.


  • Coordinates videography, including scheduling, selecting and directing videographer (if needed), and ensuring that the final product is of professional quality and meets the needs or goals of the project.


  • Manages the studio calendar for scheduling purposes, coordinating with other enterprise staff who are authorized to use the studio, ensuring adherence to studio guidelines for use.


  • Manages on-site/location crews and talent, ensuring adherence to Central Office security and safety policies and procedures.


  • Works with and supports enterprise staff, including senior leaders, to develop videos, podcasts, webinars and other multimedia projects, as needed.


  • Provides multimedia and communications counsel and services to Joint Commission staff.


  • Attends meetings and conference calls as assigned by, or in the absence of, the Associate Director of Publications & Multimedia or Director of DOCC.


  • Answers inquiries from the general public regarding Joint Commission multimedia, such as the Speak Up videos.


  • Works with the Associate Director of Publications & Multimedia and the Director of DOCC and other staff in implementing the emergency plans during or after normal work hours.


  • Assumes special assignments as delegated by the Associate Director of Publications & Multimedia or the Director of DOCC.



  • Updates and maintains a video library and The Joint Commission’s Vimeo website.


  • Updates and maintains products on The Joint Commission’s website. Conducts an annual inventory of these products to ensure relevancy.


  • Periodically reviews and, if needed, updates contracts/agreements and forms (such as release forms) to ensure they meet current/changing needs. Works with vendors and The Joint Commission’s Planning & Financial Affairs (PFA) department to ferry invoices through the payment process.


  • Works with enterprise and DOCC leadership as needed to strategize and leverage multimedia for key communications and initiatives.


  • Creates an annual Multimedia Strategic Plan with the goal to increase visibility of the Multimedia Unit and its work, and integrate/leverage high-level initiatives, such as the Savings Lives campaign.


POSITION REQUIREMENTS: Knowledge, Skills, Abilities (Note: minimum requirements)

·         A bachelor’s degree with 8 to 10 years of experience in video, editing, motion graphics, narrative and documentary-style storytelling.


·         Background in advertising, public relations or communications with special emphasis on multimedia or publications. Experience in health care or pharmaceuticals industry is desired.


·         Strong interest in editing, digital media, visual storytelling, and motion graphics.


·         Expertise in Adobe Premiere and other editing software.


·         Keen attention to detail and budgets.


·         Managerial experience with a team of at least three or more.


·         Team player who believes no task is too small or beneath them.


·         A compelling online portfolio demonstrating strategic, conceptual and visual expertise.


·         Strong communicator with excellent written and verbal communication skills, as well as analytical, organizational and interpersonal skills.


·         Ability to handle multiple projects, stay organized, and prioritize tasks to meet deadlines.


·         Ability to manage multiple brands/accounts across multiple categories and audiences.


·         High level of cross-platform, multimedia knowledge, including expertise in cameras, lighting equipment and techniques, audio and other equipment, and creative software.
