The Executive Director serves as the Business Leader of the Hospital Accreditation Programs as well as the “content expert” and “champion” responsible for ensuring the short-term performance and the long-term health of these programs. The Executive Director will be responsible for delivering on annual new accreditation applications and revenue targets. In this capacity, he / she is also responsible, in collaboration with Marketing, for the development and implementation of annual business plans for hospital accreditation programs. Provides input into all standards revisions and additions in accordance with leading practices, clinical advances and customer needs and serves as The Joint Commission’s representative to all customers and critical external stakeholders. Finally, the Executive Director will be responsible for driving collaboration across the Enterprise to ensure consistent and coordinated management of hospital accreditation customers.


  1. Accountable for delivering on annual initial application and revenue targets for the Hospital / CAH programs.
  2. In collaboration with Marketing, develops an annual business plan which identifies growth opportunities, tactics for driving product performance and allocating available resources.
  3. Leads the inter-divisional Strategic Business Unit for the Hospital Program.
  4. Implements strategies designed to support and nurture Joint Commission Hospital Accreditation.
  5. Provides technical assistance in support of the development of accreditation manuals, standards, educational programs, and other accreditation-related materials.
  6. Represents the Joint Commission at various national and regional forums relative to accreditation services. Seeks opportunities to promote the value of Joint Commission Hospital / CAH accreditation through speaking engagements and publications.
  7. Performs other duties as assigned.



  1. At least ten years of sales experience, preferably in a Hospital setting.
  2. At least three years experience in developing and implementing strategic business plans and a successful record of achieving objectives. 
  3. Successful track record in business development and knowledge of contemporary business development methods and tools.
  4. Demonstrated project management skills, including the ability to organize and synthesize activities that involve a wide range of individuals, groups and health care organizations.
  5. Demonstrated strategic, financial management, project management and analytical skills. 
  6. Leadership skills demonstrated by the ability to motivate and influence both direct reports as well as members of cross-divisional teams. 
  7. Effective verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to give presentations, speeches, produce papers and various reports. 
  8. Bachelor’s degree required with a Master’s degree preferred. 
  9. Knowledge of Joint Commission program-specific standards and survey process is required.
  10. Anticipated travel required up to 50% as needed.
  11. Local candidates strongly preferred.
