Plans, organizes and coordinates with the supervision of the Senior Associate Director, State & External Relations, activities related to outreach with state regulatory agencies. Cultivates new and nurtures existing relationships with the state agencies responsible for the licensing and certification of health care entities. Performs outreach activities to state agencies in pursuit of recognition of the Joint Commission’s accreditation and certification programs. Participates in meetings with various state regulatory agencies. Provides formal education and information to central office, surveyors and external groups.


  1. Bachelor’s degree in public health, healthcare administration or public policy, or a related field. Master’s degree or working towards Masters preferred.
  2. Minimum of five years of experience in a health care relevant setting. Preference for individual with knowledge of Joint Commission operations and policies and procedures.
  3. Strong verbal and written communication skills, interpersonal skills, and the demonstrated ability to interact effectively with all levels of staff and external customers.
  4. Ability to deliver effective and engaging presentations.
  5. Ability to develop relationships with director level state agency staff and influence state regulatory agencies to rely on Joint Commission accreditation and certification
  6. Excellent analytical, decision-making, organizational skills are required. Strong computer skills also desirous.
  7. Demonstrated knowledge of Joint Commission policies and procedures.
  8. Maintains general knowledge off all accreditation and certification programs/market segments, standards areas, and operational components of survey process.
  9. Must be flexible and handle fast-paced environment.
  10. Must be able to work independently with a high degree of accuracy and also be able to work effectively with a team. Must be able to assume responsibility for prioritizing, integrity and completion of work as assigned.
  11. Travel required up to 25 percent including weekends as needed.
