This mid-level editorial position conceptualizes, develops, and substantively edits book-length content. He or she ensures content is appropriately written, edited, reviewed, and approved, and publications are accurate, published in a timely manner, and profitable according to department guidelines.


  • The level of knowledge equivalent to that ordinarily acquired through completion of a bachelor’s degree in English, communications, or related field; certification in developmental editing or publishing a plus.

  • Minimum of two years of experience in publishing (content and developmental editing), preferably in book publishing. Experience in health care publishing or with updatable looseleaf publications is very helpful.
  • Excellent verbal and written skills.
  • Ability to understand and analyze complex material in a wide range of technical areas in health care and ensure effective communication of same.
  • Ability to successfully manage multiple projects and meet deadlines.
  • Interpersonal skills needed to interact with and elicit cooperation of internal staff and external authors, reviewers, and content experts in developing publications.
  • Ability to resolve disparate point of view or needs relative to publication content.
  • Personal characteristics of professionalism and commitment to high standards, self confidence, assertiveness, integrity, and discriminating judgment.
