Surveys international health care organizationslaboratories throughout South America, Middle East, Asia, and Europe. Applies systems analysis skills and inductive reasoning skills to determine health care organizations' degree of compliance with applicable Joint Commission International (JCI) standards and the functionality and safety of care delivery. Engages health care organization staff in interactive dialogues on standards-based issues in health care in order toto assess compliance and to identify opportunities for improving compliance. Prepares management finding reports that clearly link individual standards deficiencies with potential systems vulnerabilities issues and related organization risk points. Effectively communicates this information to health care organization leadership in a constructive, educational, and professional, and culturally sensitive manner. Participates in other Joint Commission Resources educational activities and projects as assigned.


Qualified candidates must hold a Master’s degree in appropriate discipline.  Current professional license in discipline and Board Certified required at time of hire and must be maintained throughout the duration of employment. Five years of experience working in various components of a hospital and a health care system, including three years direct clinical experience, and two years senior management experience. Recent experience as a consultant to health care organizations may be considered. Must be able to travel to all countries where JCI accredits in concordance with the JCI Travel Utilization Policy. Obtain and maintain a current passport and visas when applicable. For frequent US travelers, a second passport may be advisable to ensure that one passport is always available for use (if permitted by laws of the country in which the passport is held). Weekend travel will be required. Critical thinking, interpersonal, problem solving, interviewing, teamwork, organizational, and written and verbal skills required. Ability to use a computer and web-based systems. Candidates must be able to access the internet to complete any on-line training requirements. Must to able to lift 25 lbs., climb stairs and ladders, work in settings with infectious diseases, and travel 100% of work time (including long, continuous flights). Must also be able to speak, read, and write in fluent English.  Proficiency in one or more foreign languages preferred. International health care experience desirable.  Candidates chosen for this position must fully participate in all components of continuous training programs, including on-site and web-based.  New surveyors are expected to complete a minimum of 2-3 preceptorship surveys within three months of successful completion of the New Surveyor Orientation.


Must be able to meet one of the following availability requirements depending upon employment status:


Full time – Requires a minimum of 195 work days per calendar year

Part time – Requires a minimum of 130 work days per calendar year

Intermittent – Requires a minimum of 84 work days per calendar year

Independent Contractor – Requires a minimum of 42 work days per calendar year
