Overview

Provides leadership to ensure the Division of Healthcare Quality Evaluation's standards, survey methods, and performance measures have the highest possible scientific integrity. Team leader for the development of new certification programs, guiding literature reviews, identifying national experts on topics, leading technical advisory panels, and working with the Directors of the Department of Standards and Survey Methods (SSM) and the Department of Quality Measurement to ensure that standards and performance measures for the program address the most important quality and safety concerns and are supported by the best available evidence. Provide clinical expertise to SSM and the Division of Accreditation and Certification Operations to help develop and maintain valid and reliable survey processes and methods. Work with the Department of Health Services Research on internal and external research projects and evaluations.  Serves as The Joint Commission’s primary clinical representative for major professional organizations as a way to understand emerging issues and facilitate appropriate national dialogues on standards, performance measurement and clinical research issues.

Qualifications

MD with a minimum 5-8 years of clinical experience. Advanced training (certification or degree program) in research or the sciences of quality measurement and improvement. Knowledge of national trends in healthcare delivery, emerging technologies, and quality and patient safety. A preferred 5-10 years experience in health care management with responsibilities for quality improvement, process improvement, and/or patient safety. Managerial ability to collaboratively plan, organize, and direct the activities of others. Experience with professional society activities on a state and national or international level.

Interpersonal skills to interact effectively with organizational leadership, Board members, government officials, clinical and managerial leaders in health care organizations, and others within and outside the organization and United States. Written and verbal communication skills necessary to effectively present information and ideas effectively in articles, proposals, position papers, and presentations.
